Omschrijving
Een van oorsprong middeleeuws pand, in de 17e eeuw achter een gevel samengevoegd met Mariaplaats 10. Het pand bestaat uit twee bouwlagen met een kap evenwijdig aan de straat en een kelder.
Het middeleeuwse huis is, ondanks de latere verbouwing, grotendeels gehandhaafd. Het betreft hier een in oorsprong vierkant stenen huis uit de 14e eeuw met een daarnaast gelegen poort met een steeg. In de eerste helft van de 15e eeuw werd het pand vergroot en kwamen de poort en een deel van de steeg binnen de muren te liggen. Het resterende deel van de steeg is tot op heden gehandhaafd. In deze middeleeuwse opzet maakt het pand deel uit van het z.g. Zoudenbalch-bezit waartoe ook de panden Donkerstraat 15, 17 en 19 en het poortgebouw Mariastraat 28 behoren. Dit bezit wordt ook bevestigd door muurschilderingen van wapens in het huis. In de 17e eeuw worden de huizen Mariaplaats 9 en 10 achter een gevel samengetrokken. In de 18e eeuw wordt het huis aan de achterzijde met een travee uitgebreid.
Het pand is van groot bouwhistorisch belang vanwege zijn plaats binnen het Zoudenbalch-bezit. Tevens is het pand van architectonisch belang vanwege zijn markante ligging.

Description
A building of medieval origin, in the 17th century combined behind a facade with Mariaplaats 10. The building consists of two storeys with a roof truss structure parallel to the street and a cellar.
Despite later alterations, the medieval house has been largely preserved. This is an originally square stone building from the 14th century with an adjacent gateway and alley. In the first half of the 15th century the building was enlarged and the gateway and part of the alley came within the walls. The remaining part of the alley has been preserved to the present day. In this medieval layout the building forms part of the so-called Zoudenbalch property, which also includes the buildings Donkerstraat 15, 17 and 19 and the gatehouse Mariastraat 28. This property is also confirmed by wall paintings of coats of arms in the house. In the 17th century the houses Mariaplaats 9 and 10 are brought together behind a facade. In the 18th century the building is extended at the rear by one bay.
The building is of great architectural-historical importance because of its place within the Zoudenbalch property. It is also of architectural importance because of its striking location.
