In sobere 'middeleeuwse' trant in het eerste kwart van deze eeuw uitgevoerd POORTGEBOUW, gesitueerd aan de zuidzijde van de open kasteelhof van het kasteel-museum Sypesteyn en geintegreerd met de tot verschillende hoogten gemetselde AFSCHEIDINGSMUREN. De hoge zuidoostelijke muur wordt bekroond door kantelen en heeft bij de hoektoren een rondboogvormige spaarnis, bij de zuidhoek een gemetselde berging onder lessenaarsdak een rondboogvormige doorgang met deur; de korte noordoostelijke muur bevat een smalle getoogde deur waarboven aan de buitenzijde een mascaronsteen, terwijl op de oosthoek de ronde HOEKTOREN is opgetrokken, vanaf de hof toegankelijk door een getoogde deur, met een uitkraging aan de bovenzijde; de lange, lage zuidwestelijke muur, waarin de poort, heeft aan de zijde van de slotgracht een vijftal muurankers. De met een muizetandlijst versierde poort heeft een rechthoekige doorgang onder met leien in rijndekking gedekt schilddak. Voorts is de poort verbonden met een eenvoudige, van ijzeren balusterleuningen voorziene TOEGANGSBRUG over de zich versmallende slotgracht, met bij de poort een opklapbaar deel, steunend op een gemetselde pijler.

Description
GATEHOUSE executed in a sober 'medieval' style in the first quarter of this century, situated on the south side of the open castle courtyard of the castle-museum Sypesteyn and integrated with the BOUNDARY WALLS built to varying heights. The high southeastern wall is crowned with crenellations and has at the corner tower a rounded arched opening, at the south corner a built-in storage under a half-hipped roof and a rounded arched passage with door; the short northeastern wall contains a narrow arched door above which on the exterior a mascaronstone, while at the east corner the round CORNER TOWER is erected, accessible from the courtyard through an arched door, with a projecting element at the top; the long, low southwestern wall, in which the gate, has on the side of the castle moat five ornamental wall anchors. The gate, decorated with a stepped cornice moulding, has a rectangular passage covered with a hipped roof with slates in running bond. Furthermore, the gate is connected with a simple FOOTBRIDGE equipped with iron balustrades over the narrowing castle moat, with at the gate a hinged section, supported on a built-in pier.
