Omschrijving
Hoofdstation N.S.. In 1863 gebouwd als Staatsspoorstation Klasse I. Het geheel witgepleisterde gebouw bestaat uit een twee bouwlagen hoog middendeel onder zadeldak, aan de voorzijde (met tympaan) ingedeeld in 9 vensterassen en aan de perronzijde 10-assig. Aan weerszijden vleugels onder lage schilddaken, even diep als het middenstuk. Oorspronkelijk hadden deze vleugels 5 openingen aan de voorzijde, in later stadium is daar een bijgekomen. Deze delen hadden aan de voorzijde balustrades. Aan de perronzijde hebben deze vleugels 7 traveeën. Op de zijvleugels sluiten nog eens bijna even lange vleugels aan, echter ondieper (terugspringend aan de voorzijde) en oorspronkelijk vlak gedekt (later een vlak schilddak). De uiterst rechter vleugel is later naar voren toe, tot aan de rooilijn, uitgebreid. Beide uiterste vleugels hadden aan de voorzijde vier (later 6) openingen en aan de perronzijde 6 traveeen. Aan de voorzijde heeft alleen het gedeelte onder het tympaan pilasters, aan de perronzijde is de begane grond over de hele breedte (36 traveeen) door pilasters met rondbogen geleed. De ijzeren overkapping over drie sporen, een van de eerste sikkelspanten in Nederland, met raamwerkliggers en gietijzeren kolommen, is in 1991 gesloopt.

Description
Main Station N.S.. Built in 1863 as a State Railway Station Class I. The entirely white-plastered building consists of a central section two storeys high under a gabled roof, on the front façade (with tympanum) divided into 9 window bays and on the platform side 10-bay. On either side wings under low hipped roofs, equally deep as the central section. Originally these wings had 5 openings on the front façade, at a later stage one was added. These sections had balustrades on the front façade. On the platform side these wings have 7 bays. To the side wings connect yet again nearly equally long wings, however shallower (recessed on the front façade) and originally flat-roofed (later a flat hipped roof). The far right wing was later extended forwards, to the building line. Both extreme wings had four (later 6) openings on the front façade and on the platform side 6 bays. On the front façade only the section under the tympanum has pilasters; on the platform side the ground floor is articulated across the full width (36 bays) by pilasters with round arches. The iron canopy over three tracks, one of the first sickle-span trusses in the Netherlands, with frame girders and cast-iron columns, was demolished in 1991.
