Inleiding
WOONBLOK met zes woningen, ontworpen door D. de Herder en Zn. en in de periode 1926-1927 gebouwd in sobere Amsterdamse School bouwstijl. Het pand is schuin geplaatst in een buitenbocht van de Westerstraat in de nabijheid van het station. De straten tussen binnenstad en station waren eind negentiende eeuw, begin twintigste eeuw een toplocatie voor de gegoede burgers van Zwolle. De straten vormden de groene buitengrens van de stad en lagen dicht bij het station.
Voor het gebouw zijn als erfscheiding muurtjes opgemetseld in de zelfde baksteen als het pand.
Omschrijving
Het bouwblok is opgetrokken in gele baksteen over drie bouwlagen onder een plat dak met een overstekende gootlijst. De uiteinden van het symmetrische gebouw zijn geknikt ten opzichte van het hoofdvolume geplaatst. Door de knikken sluit het appartementengebouw aan op de woonhuizen in de twee straten die in de bocht samenkomen.
In de geknikte volumes aan weerszijden bevinden zich aan de voorkant twee deuren, centraal in de voorgevel is een ingangspartij met drie deuren. De ingangspartijen bestaan uit houten deuren met een smalle hoge ruit onder rechte betonnen luifels. De gevels zijn verder geleed door rechtgesloten vensters met bovenlichten, grote vensters met een kleine roedenverdeling, traplichten en siermetselwerk.
Boven de centrale ingangspartij in de voorgevel is een loggia met gemetselde kolommen aangebracht. Onder de loggia in het midden en de traplichten aan de uiteinden zijn plantenbakken op klossen opgehangen.
Aan de achtergevel zijn op de verdiepingen doorlopende balkons opgehangen. Dubbele glasdeuren verlenen toegang tot de balkons.

RESIDENTIAL BLOCK with six dwellings, designed by D. de Herder and Sons and built in the period 1926-1927 in austere Amsterdam School architectural style. The building is positioned at an angle in an outer bend of the Westerstraat in the vicinity of the station. Description
The building block is constructed in yellow brickwork over three storeys under a flat roof with an overhanging drip moulding. The ends of the symmetrical building are angled in relation to the main volume. Through the angles the apartment building connects to the residential houses in the two streets that meet in the bend.
In the angled volumes on either side are two doors on the front; centrally in the front facade is an entrance section with three doors. The entrance sections consist of wooden doors with a narrow tall window beneath straight concrete canopies. The facades are further articulated by flush-framed windows with fanlights, large windows with small glazing bars, staircase windows and ornamental brickwork.
Above the central entrance section in the front facade is a loggia with mortared columns. Below the loggia in the centre and the staircase windows at the ends are planted boxes hung on brackets.
On the rear facade are continuous balconies hung on the storeys. Double glass doors provide access to the balconies.
