Oostelijke woningreeks met twee poorten, Merelstraat 4-38 4-34.
Symmetrisch opgezette woningreeks uit telkens gespiegelde woningen, waarvan vier in het midden, vervolgens aan weerszijden een vlak gedekte poortdoorgang naar de achtertuinen, die aan de straatzijde wordt gemarkeerd door forse schoorsteenpartijen en een laag doorgezet dakvlak met overstek, steunend op in oorsprong van bollen voorziene dwarsmuren, en aansluitend aan beide zijden elk een zevental woningen waarvan de beide hoekpanden naar voren zijn uitgebouwd, de ingang in de korte kopgevel hebben en voorts worden afgedekt door een rondom laag doorgezet, overstekend schilddak, doorbroken door kleine dakkapellen. Voor de architectuur van deze woningreeks is met name bepalend de plaatsing van de uitspringende, duidelijk gemarkeerde schoorstenen, die tevens in voorgevel compositorisch geleden en de doorlopende horizontale vensterreeks, direct onder de als een lineair accent toegepaste doorlopende dakgoot, waardoor deze elementen ook nadrukkelijk een stedebouwkundige rol spelen.
Aan de overigens vlak gehouden achterzijde van de woningreeks telkens per twee woningen een gezamenlijke, plat afgedekte uitbouw en gekoppelde dakkapellen. Vensters en deuren zijn bij renovatie gewijzigd. Woningreeks, deel uitmakend van het complex met monumentnummer 407236 en als zodanig van belang.

Eastern row of houses with two gateways, Merelstraat 4-38 4-34.
Symmetrically arranged row of houses of mutually mirrored houses, of which four in the middle, then on either side a flat-roofed gateway passage to the rear gardens, which is marked on the street side by substantial chimney structures and a low continuous roof plane with overhang, resting on transverse walls originally provided with ball finials, and adjoining on both sides each a group of seven houses of which the two corner houses are built forward, have the entrance in the short end gable and are furthermore covered by a low continuous overhanging hipped roof all around, interrupted by small roof dormers. For the architecture of this row of houses, the placement of the projecting, clearly marked chimneys is particularly determining, which are also compositionally articulated in the front facade and the continuous horizontal window row, directly below the continuous gutter applied as a linear accent, whereby these elements also emphatically play an urban design role.
On the otherwise flat rear of the row of houses, per two houses a shared, flat-roofed extension and coupled roof dormers. Windows and doors have been altered during renovation. Row of houses, forming part of the complex with national monument number 407236 and as such of importance.
