The register's description

BARRACKS BUILDING for non-commissioned officers and other ranks, built in 1878. Originally fitted out to house 160 military personnel and 30 to 40 non-commissioned officers, it is now in use as a teaching building. In 1893 the rooms of the non-commissioned officers were provided with wooden floors. The rooms of the enlisted men followed a year later. The building has, together with the officers' pavilion and the guard building, a half-timbered architecture. Moreover, it is, together with the other buildings of the first construction phase of this artillery camp (nos. 236, 230 and 213), situated in a line. The row of lime trees next to the teaching building emphasizes this direction. This makes these buildings an ensemble, which should not be considered in isolation from each other.

Originally there was a structure on top of the ridge for the ventilation of the sleeping quarters. Also the high-placed window openings were subsequently lowered to parapet height due to the change of function into a teaching building. This latter alteration is entirely integrated into the timber-frame pattern.

Long building mass of one storey with roof truss structure. Wooden half-timbered facades with brick infilling in two colours. In the vertical direction, the timber-frame divides the facade into bays with the proportion 1:2:2:1. Rendered plinth, in which hard stone blocks with fine pointing at the location of the wooden posts. Beneath the large roof overhang, the bays are provided with a 'St Andrew's cross', which forms a continuous frieze. The overhang is supported at the gable ends by wooden consoles. The hipped roof has a zinc standing-seam roof. Symmetrical facade design. Front facade has windows over four timber-frame bays with glazing bars (2x3/2x3+2x3/2x3). At intervals of three window bays a panel door with fanlight. The windows near the corners are in original condition with low fanlights (division 2x3/2x3 + 2x1/2x1). Almost blind side facades with a window (division 2x3/2x3) for light access to the attic space. The west facade is, due to moisture penetration, rendered in grey with imitation joints suggesting natural stone blocks.

The rear facade has the same layout as the front facade. Attached to it are two flat extensions of later date, in which sanitary facilities have been installed.

The minor alterations that have been made have no influence on the characteristic form-giving character of the building. The siting is of historical urban planning significance. The building stands out for its well-proportioned design, special construction and material use and has already rare building details. Moreover, it represents a well-preserved example of half-timbered construction and keeps the history of the Artillery Shooting Range visible.

Building 215 'barracks for non-commissioned officers and other ranks' is important both because of its location and through its coherence with the other structures and the autonomous architectural and cultural-historical values as an evident monument of more recent building art.
