The register's description

CANTEEN BUILDING for the officers, built during 1883-1885.

After the first building phase the right pavilion was lower than the left. In 1900 a dwelling for the head steward was built above the kitchen, as a result of which the whole acquired a symmetrical appearance. The front of the right pavilion was subsequently drastically altered in the 1930s into a brick gable end and perpendicular to this an extension of one storey with saddle roof, both covered with red roof tiles. The original zinc grooved roof was replaced by a bituminous roof covering. The interior still reflects the spirit of 1885 and is reasonably well preserved. From an urban planning point of view the building belongs to the first phase of the development of the Artillery Shooting Range. It stands in a building line between the previously realized officers' pavilion (no. 236) and the barracks (no. 215).

Building mass of one storey with low roof truss, at the gable ends terminated by pavilions of two storeys with a very low roof truss. Facades white plastered with black tarred plinth, except for the front facade within the conservatory which is unplastered. Imitation mortar joints suggest natural stone blocks. Pilasters on the corners and in the side facades are smoothly plastered. Across the facade runs a drip moulding with a dentil. The top of the facade is terminated with a surrounding frieze in which a diamond-shaped decoration. The hipped roofs are covered with a bituminous roof covering. In the facades windows, terminated with a segmental arch, with sash windows (division 2x(1+2)). Between the pavilions a wooden veranda, recently closed with plastic sliding doors. This replaces an earlier one. The right pavilion has a white painted brick gable end, covered with red former roof tiles, with large windows with fanlights. Transverse to this an extension of one storey, partly with a saddle roof, partly with flat roof. On the rear side an outbuilding in red brick, with a flattened hipped roof on which corrugated sheets have been applied. Coupled windows with fanlight, with two horizontal glazing bars.

Despite the rather striking alterations and additions from the 1930s on the right side, the original layout is still clearly recognizable, and this building, also considered its situation, is of historical urban planning importance. Moreover, the officers' canteen stands out because of its neo-classical detailing. It is of general importance because of the historical memories associated with it, its importance for architecture, historical science and its overriding beauty. It keeps the history of the Artillery Shooting Range visible.

Building 230 'officers' canteen' is of importance both because of its location and because of its connection with the other structures and autonomous architectural and cultural-historical values as an evident monument of more recent building construction.
