Omschrijving
Verdedigingswerken van de vesting Willemstad.
De verdedigingswerken worden aan de stadskant begrensd door de buitenoever van de walsloot en aan de veldzijde door de buitenoever van de buitengracht. De bescherming omvat alle tot het verdedigingswerk behorende bestanddelen tussen beide oevers, waaronder water- en aardwerken en bouwwerken uit verschillende bouwperioden die zich (gedeeltelijk) in deze aardwerken bevinden, alsook objecten die op of bij de aardwerken zijn gelegen en apart zijn genoemd in de omschrijving.
De verdedigingswerken bestaan uit zeven bastions, genoemd naar de zeven provinciën van de Republiek der Zeven Verenigde Nederlanden. De binnendijkse omwalling is omsloten door een vestinggracht, waaromheen een singel, welke in het westen en oosten aansluit op de dijken langs het Hollandsch Diep. De singel is omgeven door een buitengracht. De wallen en de singel zijn op fraaie wijze beplant. In de vestinggracht ligt ter hoogte van de Landpoort een ravelijn. De binnendijkse vestinggracht wordt van het buitenwater afgesloten door twee beren, die aan de oost- en westzijde een verbinding vormen met de dijken langs het Hollandsch Diep en een derde beer bij de haven. De buitendijkse vestinggracht staat via de haventoegang in verbinding met het Hollandsch Diep en is daarvan gescheiden door een landstrook.

De sectie omvat:
- bastions Holland, Zeeland, Utrecht, Friesland;
- verbindende courtines;
- bouwwerken die zich (gedeeltelijk) in de aardwerken bevinden;
- walsloot;
- vestinggracht met Westbeer en spuisluis;
- singel met beplanting op de wallen en buitengracht, welke de vesting aan de west- en zuidzijde omsluit;

Description
Defences of the fortress Willemstad.
The defences are bounded on the town side by the outer bank of the rampart ditch and on the field side by the outer bank of the outer moat. The protection comprises all components belonging to the defence work between both banks, including water and earth works and structures from different building periods which are (partly) located in these earth works, as well as objects which are situated on or at the earth works and separately named in the description.
The defences consist of seven bastions, named after the seven provinces of the Republic of the Seven United Netherlands. The inner dike rampart is enclosed by a fortress moat, around which runs a rampart, which in the west and east connects to the dikes along the Hollandsch Diep. The rampart is surrounded by an outer moat. The ramparts and the rampart are beautifully planted. In the fortress moat at the level of the Landpoort lies a ravelin. The inner-dike fortress moat is separated from the outer water by two boomchains, which on the east and west sides form a connection with the dikes along the Hollandsch Diep and a third boomchain at the harbour.
