Omschrijving
Prinsenhof, ook genaamd Mauritshuis of Gouvernement. In 1623 gesticht door Prins Maurits. Groot huis onder zadeldak tussentopgevels; in de brede voorgevel beganegronds gekoppelde pilasters met korfbogen; in de verdieping Tudorbogen tussen vlakke muurdammen; de boogtrommels met cartouches versierd. In de 18e eeuw de kruiskozijnen vervangen door grote houten kozijnen waarin ramen met kleine roedenverdeling. Opgetrokken uit rode baksteen met rijke toepassing van zandsteen voor lijsten en ornament. Houten gootlijst op zandstenen consoles; in het midden van de voorgevel een zandstenen poort met pilasteromlijsting en ovaal licht, bekroond door een gebogen en gebroken fronton. Op de architraaf boven de pilasters het jaartal 1623. In 1930 gerestaureerd. Achter het hoofdgebouw de brigadierswoning een rechthoekig bakstenen gebouw met twee trapgevels en houten gootlijst op zandstenen consoles. Description
Prinsenhof, also called Mauritshuis or Gouvernement. Founded in 1623 by Prince Maurits. Large house under a gabled roof with intermediate spout gables; in the broad front facade on the ground floor paired pilasters with basket arches; on the floor above Tudor arches between flat wall sections; the arch drums decorated with cartouches. In the 18th century the cross windows were replaced by large wooden windows with panes featuring small glazing bars. Constructed of red brick with rich use of sandstone for mouldings and ornament. Wooden gutter moulding on sandstone corbels; in the middle of the front facade a sandstone gate with pilaster framing and oval light, crowned by a curved and broken pediment. On the architrave above the pilasters the date 1623. Restored in 1930. Behind the main building the brigadier's quarters, a rectangular brick building with two stepped gables and wooden gutter moulding on sandstone corbels. It is presumed that the Court was designed by the Stadhouder's master builder, Melchior van Herbach, who also built the stylistically very related town hall of Klundert.
