AULA bij de Algemene Begraafplaats.
In classicistische trant uitgevoerd blokvormig pand met gebosseerde hoeklisenen onder omlopend schilddak met omlopende kroonlijst op klossen, in oorsprong gebouwd als aula bij de eerste Algemene Begraafplaats van Gouda (gesticht 1828-29) en daterend uit 1829.
De voorgevel is voorzien van een hardstenen plint en een gebosseerd middenrisaliet met monumentale ingangspartij, bekroond door een driehoekig fronton en met ter weerszijden een geprofileerd vierruitsschuifvenster waarvan het bovenlicht een spitsboog met vorkverdeling bevat en het middenkalf een tandlijst. De door houten pilasters met doodskoppen en hoofdgestel met opschrift MEMENTO MORI omlijste ingangspartij bevat een stel dubbele paneeldeuren met hardstenen stoep en zijvoluten met bollen, en een rondboogvormig bovenlicht met aan leven en dood refererende ornamenten.
De achtergevel is met uitzondering van het opschrift, het fronton, en de twee dakkapellen, identiek.
De rechterzijgevel bezit drie zesruits-schuifvensters, de linker zijgevel een (naast de later ingebrachte ingang naar nr 1).

Description
AULA at the General Cemetery.
Blocky building executed in classical style with rusticated corner pilasters under continuous hipped roof with continuous cornice on consoles, originally built as aula at the first General Cemetery of Gouda (founded 1828-29) and dating from 1829.
The front facade is provided with a limestone plinth and a rusticated central risalit with monumental entrance section, crowned by a triangular pediment and with on either side a profiled four-light sash window of which the fanlight contains a pointed arch with forked glazing and the middle pane a dentil moulding. The entrance section framed by wooden pilasters with skulls and entablature with inscription MEMENTO MORI contains a pair of double panel doors with limestone step and side volutes with balls, and a semicircular-shaped fanlight with ornaments referring to life and death.
The rear facade is identical with the exception of the inscription, the pediment, and the two roof dormers.
The right side facade has three six-light sash windows, the left side facade one (beside the later inserted entrance to no. 1).
Characteristic early 19th-century cemetery building with elements characteristic of classicism and the original purpose, of general importance for its architectural-historical value.
In front of the entrance to the grounds a black wrought-iron entrance gate with silver-coloured ornaments, such as the winged hourglasses on the fluted pillars, the arrowheads and other crowning finials, and with right-curved end from the period of construction.
Of importance as a component part of the aula.
