The register's description

According to the principles of the Nieuwe Bouwen (New Building movement) built in 1934 to the design of architect F. Mol for and by building contractor J. van Poppel, a detached BLOCK OF TWO RESIDENCES constructed in brick, whitewashed, right-angled, flat-roofed with two storeys on a more or less rectangular plan, which form a coherent whole with the residences Generaal van der Plaatstraat 5, 7 and 9.

The houses have on the front elevation on the first storey over nearly the entire facade width a broad balcony enclosed by simple iron railings, which flatly covers the extended sculleries at the facade ends and the terraces lying between them, partly enclosed by a low wall at ground level, and at the rear a step between number 3 and the shallower number 1, at ground level in the centre a projecting conservatory that is almost entirely glazed and flat-roofed, recessed facades on the second storey and above the first storey a flat-roofed terrace with parapet; at the front elevation, nearly at the corners a rectangular flue duct projecting above the roof edge; in the facades partly symmetrically, partly asymmetrically arranged square (side facades) and vertical and horizontal rectangular window openings (at the balconies and terraces coupled with doors) of varying sizes and with panes set in - located in the facade plane - narrow, undivided and in two-, three- or four-part steel frames (at no. 1 on the front elevations on the storeys replaced by wider aluminium frames and balcony doors; at no. 3 aluminium door in side facade of extension on the front elevation).

Internally the residences have a traditional layout, which has not been essentially altered.

Due to the overall design of particularly the exterior, the situation, the coherence with Generaal van der Plaatstraat 5, 7 and 9 and the socio- and architectural-historical significance of the fact that this design was applied at that time in that location by a building contractor, the aforementioned residences - despite some minor alterations, the damaging extension at no. 7, the partly still traditional use of materials (brick) and the traditional layout - are as a representative example of the Dutch contribution to the Nieuwe Bouwen from the period 1920-1940 of general importance for the significance in the development of modern architecture.
