Omschrijving
Nieuwe KERK. Een tweebeukige hallenkerk, ontstaan uit vergrotingen van het schip van de oorspronkelijke Romaanse Kerk. Laatste uitbreiding na de brand van 1568, waardoor de achtkante traptoren tegen de westgevel uit het midden kwam te staan. Bij de invoering van de nieuwe kerkelijke indeling van 1559 verheven tot kathedraal; in 1577 ingericht voor de protestantse godsdienstoefening. Moderne aanbouw met arkade aan de westzijde. Schuin op de kerk geplaatst portaal aan de zuidzijde. De kerk is grondig vernieuwd bij de jongste restauratie; niet alleen de houten tongewelven ook de pijlers met hun kapitelen zijn nieuw. Orgelkas uit 1693, gemaakt door J.A. Schut voor het Duyschot-orgel van de Oude Lutherse Kerk te Amsterdam. In 1886 werd het orgel in de Lutherse Kerk afgebroken. Het Rijksmuseum kreeg de kas in bruikleen. In 1954 heeft de Lutherse Gemeente van Amsterdam de orgelkas aan Middelburg afgestaan. Description
Nieuwe KERK. A two-aisle hall church, created from enlargements of the nave of the original Romanesque Church. Latest extension after the fire of 1568, as a result of which the octagonal stair tower against the west gable came to stand off-centre. Upon the introduction of the new ecclesiastical division of 1559 elevated to cathedral; in 1577 fitted out for Protestant worship. Modern addition with arcade at the west side. Angled portal on the south side of the church. The church was thoroughly renewed during the most recent restoration; not only the wooden barrel vaults but also the pillars with their capitals are new. Organ case from 1693, made by J.A. Schut for the Duyschot organ of the Oude Lutherse Kerk in Amsterdam. In 1886 the organ in the Lutherse Kerk was dismantled. The National Museum received the case on loan. In 1954 the Lutherse Gemeente of Amsterdam transferred the organ case to Middelburg. A new instrument by the firm Van Leeuwen has been placed in the old case.
