Omschrijving
COMMISSARISWONING, voorheen zetel van de raad van Vlaanderen en oorspronkelijk Gravenhof. Dit Abdijgedeelte, stammend uit XIII, vernieuwd XVI, was voor 1940 door herhaalde verbouwingen goeddeels gemoderniseerd. Het werd bij de brand van 1940 totaal verwoest. Bij de herbouw zijn een bogengalerij aan de pleinzijde en een zich daarnaast bevindende vierkante traptoren zoveel mogelijk in oorspronkelijke vorm teruggebracht. Ook wat de hoofdvorm en de gevelindeling betreft gaat het nieuwe gebouw op het verwoeste voorbeeld terug.

Description
COMMISSIONER'S RESIDENCE, formerly seat of the Council of Flanders and originally Count's Court. This Abbey section, dating from the 13th century, renewed 16th century, had been largely modernised before 1940 by repeated alterations. It was completely destroyed in the fire of 1940. During the rebuild, an arcaded gallery on the square side and an adjoining square stair tower were restored as far as possible to their original form. As regards the main shape and façade layout, the new building also follows the destroyed example.
