Description

Reformed CHURCH. Large village church with heavy west tower, restored after war damage. Single-aisle thirteenth-century nave, to which a south aisle was added in 1529. Somewhat older thirteenth-century transept, the crossing of which with the nave was vaulted with net vaults in the sixteenth century. The choir section consists of two three-aisle bays, of which the northern in the closure contains the church chamber and a second room on the upper floor; the southern choir aisle is straight-closed, the choir itself five-sided. In the church late-Gothic natural stone screens between choir and chapels, with wooden doors from 1564. On the vaults of choir and north chapel and on the partition wall between choir bays and north chapel are vault and wall paintings from the fifteenth century preserved. In the church further seventeenth-century pulpit with stairs, backboard and sounding board. Heraldic bench with carved cornice of the back panel and knobs at the corners. Large organ in case with Renaissance components. Instrument made in 1735 by A.A. Hinsz, making use of older pipework. Numerous gravestones including two 16th-century ones. Bell frame with carillon of two bells, one by Albertus, 1397, diameter 149 cm and one by G. van Wou, 1548, diameter 115 cm. Mechanical wrought-iron tower clockwork, seventeenth century?
