Inleiding
Voormalig LOGEMENT annex KOFFIEHUIS met WONING gebouwd in 1887 door architect Oeds de Leeuw Wieland uit Loppersum na aanleg van de spoorlijn Groningen-Delfzijl in 1884. Oeds de Leeuw, die het pand in een Ambachtelijk-traditionele trant bouwde met Eclectische elementen, exploiteerde het koffiehuis zelf tot 1905. Sindsdien heeft het pand dat nu in gebruik is als hotel-café-restaurant een aantal wijzigingen ondergaan en is het een aantal keren uitgebreid. In 1908 is het portiek van de hoofdentree verrijkt met twee, door een zekere A. van der Laan beschilderde rondboognissen. Op de verdieping is waarschijnlijk omstreek 1915 het middengedeelte boven de hoofdentree dichtgezet. Het pand had van oorsprong een aangebouwd achterhuis met dwars daarop een schuur met doorrit. De doorrit is in 1959 verdwenen toen de schuur werd verbouwd tot een grote zaal. De westzijde van het achterhuis werd toen uitgebreid met een nieuwe entreepartij met toiletten. In 1979 werd een aangrenzende garage bij het pand getrokken en verbouwd tot kegelbaan. In 1986 werd een semi-permanent gebouw aan het pand toegevoegd. Het achterhuis met schuur en de diverse uitbreidingen vallen buiten de bescherming van rijkswege. Al deze wijzigingen hebben echter de hoofdaanblik van het hotel nauwelijks aangetast.
Het pand is opvallend gelegen aan het eind van de Stationslaan, in de as van het voormalige station uit 1886. Het wordt omringd door monumentale panden in de als gebied met bijzondere stedebouwkundige waarden aangewezen stationsbuurt.
Omschrijving
Twee bouwlagen hoog LOGEMENT opgetrokken in een roodbruine baksteen onder een omlopend schilddak gedekt met een zwart geglazuurde Friese golfpan. Het dak wordt omlijst door een kroonlijst en bekroond door vier houten pirons. De gevels worden verlevendigd door gepleisterde gevelbanden en geleed door zesruits vensters met strek en gepleisterde wenkbrauwboog met sluitsteen. De voorgevel en de beide zijgevels hebben elk acht zesruitsvensters. De hoofdentree bevindt zich midden in de voorgevel (noordzijde) en bestaat uit een ruim, met zwarte en crème vloertegels betegeld portiek, met in de drie wanden openslaande paneeldeuren met tweeruits deurlichten onder een bovenlicht met roedenverdeling en strek; de openslaande deuren in het midden (de entree) worden geflankeerd door twee gepleisterde rondboognissen op een gemarmerde schacht; in het vlak van de linker boognis is een vrouw met kind geschilderd, gesigneerd met "A. vd Laan, 1908" en in die van de rechter boognis een minstreel; de entree tot het portiek wordt gemarkeerd door een houten raamwerk, bestaande uit twee decoratieve houten pilaren waartussen aan de bovenzijde een houten ajourlijst is bevestigd en aan de onderzijde twee opengewerkte houten hekjes; tussen beide pilaren eindigt de stoep met drie granito treden waarin de tekst Hotel Spoorzicht is ingelegd. Boven de entreepartij bevindt zich een houten balkon met hek bestaande uit houten hoekpijlers met leuning, opgevuld met decoratief ijzerwerk; een glasdeur met aan weerszijden een H-venster (alledrie niet origineel) verleent toegang tot het balkon.
Het INTERIEUR valt wegens te veel wijzigingen buiten de bescherming.

Former LODGING HOUSE with attached COFFEE HOUSE and RESIDENCE built in 1887 by architect Oeds de Leeuw Wieland from Loppersum following the construction of the Groningen-Delfzijl railway line in 1884. Oeds de Leeuw, who built the premises in an Arts and Crafts-traditional manner with Eclectic elements, ran the coffee house himself until 1905. Two-storey LODGING HOUSE constructed in reddish-brown brick under a hipped roof clad with black glazed Frisian roof tiles. The roof is framed by a cornice and topped by four wooden finials. The facades are enlivened by rendered facade bands and articulated by six-paned windows with hood and rendered eyebrow moulding with voussoir. The front facade and both side facades each have eight six-paned windows. The main entrance is located in the centre of the front facade (north side) and consists of a spacious portico paved with black and cream floor tiles, with panel doors with two-paned door lights opening in all three walls beneath a fanlight with glazing bars and hood; the opening doors in the middle (the entrance) are flanked by two rendered round-arch recesses on a marbled shaft; in the plane of the left arch recess a woman with child is painted, signed "A. vd Laan, 1908" and in that of the right arch recess a minstrel; the entrance to the portico is marked by a wooden framework consisting of two decorative wooden pilasters between which a wooden openwork cornice is attached at the top and two openwork wooden gates at the bottom; between both pilasters the pavement ends with three granite steps into which the text Hotel Spoorzicht is inlaid. Above the entrance section is a wooden balcony with railing consisting of wooden corner pillars with balustrade, filled with decorative ironwork; a glass door with an H-window on either side (none original) provides access to the balcony.
