Omschrijving
Ned. Herv. kerk. Zij is georienteerd.

Description
Reformed church. In its present form created after 1575 as a straight-closed single-aisle hall church with built-in west tower. The building, with the exception of the front facade, is constructed of yellow-red brick. It lies under a slate roof with hip on the east side. The church stands on terrain sloping towards the west within a churchyard. It is oriented. The originally medieval cross church with three-sided closed choir was almost entirely destroyed in 1575 or 1576. In the rebuilding which was completed in 1615 the transept arms and choir were not rebuilt. After the tower collapsed in 1779 it was rebuilt in 1780 and the front facade was reconstructed, both according to a design by J. van der Linden from The Hague. Above the western entrance a stone is set in with the date of the rebuilding. In 1830 the tower crown was altered. The nave, six bays long, has pointed arch windows with brick fork traceries (restoration work). Only in the most westerly bay are there still windows with iron honeycomb tracery from 1851. Between the windows twice recessed buttresses with natural stone bands. The interior of the church is separated from the tower bay by a wooden partition. The church space is covered with a wooden barrel vault. Wooden roof-beam supports with tie-beams and keystone pieces. During the restoration of the church in 1980 the early 17th-century pulpit was destroyed by fire. The sounding board was spared. The inventory also includes a brass pulpit lectern from 1724, a wooden precentor's lectern (first half of the 18th century), a brass chandelier with figure of Justice (first half of the 17th century, heavily restored), an originally single-manual organ, made in 1874 by Scholgens and Van den Haspel. Communion plate, consisting of two cups (1663), a cup (1893) and tin plates and cups from 1804. Church with inventory of importance from the point of view of architectural and cultural history.
