Description

Rectangular block recessed at the ends on the front and rectangular projecting at the rear of two DWELLINGS with a half storey; the middle section under a gabled roof with on the front a high, broad mansard insert (gabled roof) against a gable with (originally) wooden decoration in the gable top and with on the rear a lower and narrower mansard insert (gabled roof); the somewhat lower middle section at the ends under a half-hipped roof with on the ridge ends a decoration - cone with balls and rings - in tilework; the outbuilding against the rear under a lean-to roof; all roofs are covered with pantiles. In the front and side facade(s) arched T-windows with 4-pane fanlights; doors with window and arched fanlight. The front facade and the somewhat lower section at the ends have at storey height a decoration with recessed fields and small fields, including in the front facade a double row of dentils interrupted in the middle. The dwellings built in brick are whitewashed with black plinth. The dwellings with separate (virtually) rectangular plots bounded by divisions date from the years 1907-1909, were designed by A. Reichpietsch and form a component of the miners' colony "Hopel", which was built on the instructions of the Laura & Vereeniging mine.
