Omschrijving
St. Vitus, 1891-1892 door P.J.H. Cuypers, ontwerp uitgewerkt door J.Th.J. Cuypers, bouw geleid door K.P.C. de Bazel. Grotendeels vijfbeukige neogotische KRUISBASILIEK met ver uitspringend transept en hoge westtoren. Het bakstenen exterieur wordt verlevendigd door banden van gekleurde steen. Toren van drie vierkante geledingen met diepe spitsboognissen, bekroond door een op een achtkantige houten onderbouw rustende spits, die geflankeerd wordt door houten hoektorens met spitsen. De kerk heeft natuurstenen pijlers met kolonnetten, houten netgewelven over de hoofdbeuken en over de kruising een stergewelf. Hoogtepunt uit de tweede periode van Cuypers'oeuvre, waarin naast elementen uit de vroege en rijpe Franse gotiek ook motieven uit de inheemse en de Engelse gotiek verwerkt zijn. Neogotische inventaris grotendeels bewaard, o.a. rijk zandstenen hoogaltaar van F.W. Mengelberg. Orgel uit 1859 door L. van den Brink en Zoon te Amsterdam, gewijzigd door Maarschalkerweerd in 1893 en 1920. Gerestaureerd en van een nieuw tweede klavier voorzien door Jos Vermeulen in 1970. Mechanisch torenuurwerk, 1894, met elektrische aandrijving. Klokkenstoel met gelui, bestaande uit vijf klokken van Van Bergen, 1949, diam. resp. 155 cm, 141 cm, 115 cm, 101 cm en 90 cm.

Description
St. Vitus, 1891-1892 by P.J.H. Cuypers, design executed by J.Th.J. Cuypers, construction supervised by K.P.C. de Bazel. Largely five-aisle Neogothic CRUCIFORM BASILICA with far-projecting transept and lofty west tower. The brick exterior is enlivened by bands of coloured stone. Tower of three square divisions with deep pointed arch niches, crowned by a spire resting on an octagonal timber substructure, flanked by wooden corner turrets with spires. The church has natural stone piers with colonettes, wooden net vaults over the main aisles and a star vault over the crossing. Highlight from the second period of Cuypers' work, in which alongside elements from early and mature French Gothic also motifs from native and English Gothic are incorporated. Neogothic furnishings largely preserved, including a richly carved sandstone high altar by F.W. Mengelberg. Organ from 1859 by L. van den Brink and Zoon in Amsterdam, modified by Maarschalkerweerd in 1893 and 1920. Restored and fitted with a new second manual by Jos Vermeulen in 1970. Mechanical tower clock, 1894, with electric drive. Bell tower with bell frame, consisting of five bells by Van Bergen, 1949, diam. respectively 155 cm, 141 cm, 115 cm, 101 cm and 90 cm.
