Omschrijving
Voormalige St. Jacobskerk, thans zetel en museum van het Provinciaal Genootschap van Kunsten en Wetenschappen in Noord-Brabant.
Ontstaan uit een in 1430 gestichte kapel, in 1569 tot parochiekerk verheven en in 1584 verbouwd tot het tegenwoordige koor, waartegen het dwarspand (welks armen nooit uitgevoerd) en het driebeukig basilicaal schip aangebouwd.
1629-1650 Hervormd; 1689 cavaleriestal; 1752 arsenaal. Vele vensters gedicht, nieuwe ingebroken; kruistoren, sacristie en kosterij gesloopt.
Scheibogen tussen de zware ronde pijlers verlaagd; kerkruimte in drie verdiepingen en zolder verdeeld door inbrengen van vloeren. In de 19e eeuw kazerne. 1924-1925 herstellingen door Oscar Leeuw: moderne voorgevel; nieuwe verdiepingen in zijbeuken; zolder in schip gehandhaafd.

Description
Former St. James Church, now seat and museum of the Provincial Society of Arts and Sciences in North Brabant.
Originated from a chapel founded in 1430, elevated to parish church in 1569 and rebuilt in 1584 to the present choir, against which the transept (whose arms were never executed) and the three-aisled basilical nave were built.
1629-1650 Reformed; 1689 cavalry stable; 1752 arsenal. Many windows filled in, new ones broken through; crossing tower, sacristy and sexton's lodge demolished.
Segmental arches between the heavy round pillars lowered; church space divided into three storeys and attic by insertion of floors. In the 19th century barracks. 1924-1925 repairs by Oscar Leeuw: modern front facade; new storeys in side aisles; attic in nave maintained.
