Omschrijving
SYNAGOGE in 1906 gebouwd naar ontwerp in oriëntaliserende stijl van Tjeerd Kuipers, in samenwerking met J. van de Veen. Pand met kruisvormige, basilicale grondvorm, opgetrokken in baksteen met onderdelen en decoraties in natuursteen.
Brede monumentale westgevel met drie portalen. Boven de uitspringende zijportalen bordessen met forse balustraden en daarachter zware van vierkant naar achtkant afgeschuinde hoektorens, bekroond met koepel (3/4 bol) boven een open lantaren. Boven het hoofdportaal een puntgevel, waarin een rond venster met zespuntige ster.
Inwendig langs noord-, west- en zuidzijde vlakgedekte gaanderijen, waarboven de vrouwengalerijen. In de oostgevel een uitgebouwde, halfronde nis voor de Arke.
Middenschip en dwarsschip overwelfd met houten tongewelf, opgedeeld in gewelfvakken en samengesteld uit decoratief beschilderde houten latten. Hoefijzervormige vensters, arkadebogen en portalen. Gebrandschilderde glazen in met name de vensters van de lichtbeuk, van de vrouwengalerijen en de eindgevels van het dwarsschip. Lambrizering in kleurig geglazuurde tegels.

Description
SYNAGOGUE built in 1906 to a design in orientalising style by Tjeerd Kuipers, in collaboration with J. van de Veen. Building with cross-shaped, basilical ground plan, erected in brick with components and decorations in natural stone.
Broad monumental west façade with three portals. Above the projecting side portals flights of steps with substantial balustrades and behind them heavy corner towers, tapered from square to octagonal, crowned with dome (three-quarter spherical) above an open lantern. Above the main portal a pointed gable, containing a circular window with six-pointed star.
Internally along north, west and south sides flat-ceiled galleries, above which the women's galleries. In the east façade a projecting, semi-circular niche for the Ark.
Central nave and transept vaulted with wooden barrel vault, divided into vault sections and composed of decoratively painted wooden laths. Horseshoe-shaped windows, arcade arches and portals. Stained-glass windows particularly in the windows of the clerestory, of the women's galleries and the end façades of the transept. Wainscoting in colourfully glazed tiles.
