Omschrijving
Voormalig ministerie van Koloniën, thans ministerie van Binnenlandse Zaken.
Gebouw in eclectische trant, aanbesteed in 1852, ontworpen door W.N. Rose en voltooid in 1860. Gepleisterd blokvormig gebouw, bestaande uit parterre en drie verdiepingen van nagenoeg gelijke hoogte, gescheiden door geprofileerde waterlijsten. Het middendeel van de voorgevel en de hoeken worden gemarkeerd door risalieten. De binnen rechthoekige omlijstingen geplaatste vensters hebben op symmetrische wijze ten opzichte van de middenas gevarieerde breedten. In de eerste verdieping dragen de vensters hoofdgestellen; de vensters van de tweede en derde verdieping hebben geprofileerde omlijstingen met bladlijsten en oreilles.
De hoekrisalieten hebben brede vensters met driedelige, getoogde raamomlijstingen. De kroonlijst wordt gedragen door klossen, waaronder consoles en bekroond door een balustrade met kruisvormige vullingen. In de hal op de eerste verdieping vier paar dubbele gietijzeren zuilen met palmetkapitelen en grote voluten met bladornament.
Op deze verdieping aan de voorzijde de vergaderzaal met betimmeringen en stucplafond, waarvan de hoeken bezet zijn door rozetten en wapenschilden. Building in eclectic style, tendered in 1852, designed by W.N. Rose and completed in 1860. Rendered cubic building, consisting of a ground floor and three storeys of approximately equal height, separated by moulded drip mouldings. The central section of the front facade and the corners are marked by risalites. The windows, placed within rectangular mouldings, vary in width in a symmetrical manner with respect to the central axis. On the first storey the windows have cornices; the windows of the second and third storeys have moulded mouldings with leaf mouldings and ears.
The corner risalites have broad windows with tripartite arched window mouldings. The cornice is supported by blocks, beneath which are consoles and crowned by a balustrade with cross-shaped infills. In the hall on the first storey four pairs of double cast-iron columns with palmette capitals and large volutes with leaf ornament.
On this storey at the front the meeting hall with panelling and stucco ceiling, the corners of which are set with rosettes and coats of arms. The panelling provided with carved work in mixed forms between Renaissance, Louis XIV and Louis XV is interrupted at the short sides of the hall by a portrait of the young Queen Wilhelmina by W. Maris, set in a carved frame, and by a fireplace with marble mantelpiece in Empire forms, above which a mirror in a carved frame, crowned by lions holding the Dutch coat of arms.
