Omschrijving
R.K. Kerk van St. Jan de Doper. In 1437 tot parochiekerk verheven. Bestaat uit een driebeukig schip uit die tijd, in 1853 door H. van Tulder naar de door hem gebouwde toren verlengd en van bredere zijbeuken voorzien, en een koor, gebouwd tussen 1467 en 1482, gerestaureerd in 1853, met voormalige doopkapel aan de zuidzijde; in deze kapel een kruisribgewelf op kraagstenen. 18e eeuws houten zij-altaar met oud kopie naar Rubens'Kruisafneming en afbeelding van St. Jan (1830, door Meyer); in het andere zijaltaar een altaarstuk door B. Beschey uit 1745: Dominicus de rozenkrans ontvangende; 15e eeuwse hardstenen doopvont; Orgel met Hoofdwerk en Onderpositief, in 1833 gemaakt door F.C. Smits. In 1876 omgebouwd door de Gebr. R.C. Church of St. John the Baptist. Elevated to parish church in 1437. Consists of a three-aisle nave from that period, extended in 1853 by H. van Tulder towards the tower built by him and provided with wider aisles, and a choir, built between 1467 and 1482, restored in 1853, with former baptismal chapel on the south side; in this chapel a rib vault on corbels. 18th century wooden side altar with old copy after Rubens' Descent from the Cross and image of St. John (1830, by Meyer); in the other side altar an altarpiece by B. Beschey from 1745: Dominicus receiving the rosary; 15th century stone baptismal font; Organ with Great and Positive, made in 1833 by F.C. Smits. In 1876 rebuilt by the Brothers Gradussen. In 1986 restored by Pels and Van Leeuwen. Mechanical tower clock, 19th century, electric winding.
