Mooi aan de Dokkumer Ee en binnen het beschermde dorpsgezicht Birdaard gelegen in 1875 gebouwde koren-, pel- en houtzaagmolen "De Zwaluw".
MONNIKMOLEN op hoge taps toelopende, uitwendig achthoekige, inwendig zestienhoekige bakstenen onderbouw met op de hoeken gemetselde pilasters en voorzien van dubbele deuren en ronde vensters met gietijzeren rozettracering; houten stelling; met riet bekleed achtkant met rechthoekige vensters en met riet beklede kap. Zelfzwichtend wiekenkruis met sleepkruiwerk en in 1875 bij gieterij de prins van Oranje te 's-Gravenhage gegoten as.
Mooi gelegen koren-, pel- en zaagmolen "De Zwaluw" uit 1875, van algemeen belang uit een oogpunt van industriele-archeologie, de Nederlandse molengeschiedenis in het algemeen en de Friese in het bijzonder, en vanwege de historisch-functionele relatie met de vastgelegen beschermde tweede helft 19e-eeuwse houtzagerij met aanvoersloot, balkengat en sleephelling, het beschermde tweede helft 19e-eeuwse houtstek terzijde en de even verder aan Mounewei 12 beschermde tweede helft 19e-eeuwse houtloods.

Description
Beautifully situated on the Dokkumer Ee and within the protected village townscape of Birdaard, grain, hull and wood-saw mill "De Zwaluw" built in 1875.
MONK MILL on high tapering, externally octagonal, internally sixteen-sided brick base with pilasters set on the corners and provided with double doors and round windows with cast-iron rosette tracery; wooden framework; octagon covered with thatch with rectangular windows and thatched roof truss structure. Self-regulating windmill cross with sleepyoke mechanism and axis cast in 1875 at the foundry of the Prince of Orange in 's-Gravenhage.
Beautifully situated grain, hull and saw mill "De Zwaluw" from 1875, of general importance from the point of view of industrial archaeology, Dutch mill history in general and Frisian in particular, and because of the historic-functional relationship with the protected second half 19th-century sawmill with inflow channel, beam hole and drag slope, the protected second half 19th-century wood store beside it and the further protected second half 19th-century wood shed at Mounewei 12.
