Fort Beneden Lent. Op de rechter oever van de Waal tegenover Nijmegen ter bestrijking van de rivier en ter verdediging van de spoorbrug in 1863 gebouwd Fort Beneden Lent of Nieuw Knodsenburg. Aarden redoute met zijden van 73 bij 116 m., afgeronde hoeken en in de binnenruimte een bomvrij logiesgebouw. Dit fort was in september 1944 het toneel van zware strijd bij de verovering van de Waalbruggen door de Amerikaanse troepen.

Description
Fort Beneden Lent. On the right bank of the Waal opposite Nijmegen for controlling the river and for defence of the railway bridge, built in 1863 Fort Beneden Lent or Nieuw Knodsenburg. Earthen redoubt with sides of 73 by 116 m., rounded corners and in the inner space a bombproof lodging building. This fort was in September 1944 the scene of heavy fighting during the capture of the Waal bridges by American troops.
