The Department's description
Exterior description and setting
Hump backed road bridge over the River Blackwater, c1.5 miles N of the small village of Killinchy.
The bridge is constructed in basalt rubble and has three segmental arches which now spring from modern concrete foundations. Tie rods have also been inserted into the bridge and a water pipe cuts across the arches on the E side. Rounded coping to parapets. W side of bridge is largely covered in greenery.
Historical information
A bridge is marked on this site on the OS maps of 1834 and 1858-60 which probably corresponds (in essence) to that we see today. The concrete to the foundations and the tie rods were all added post 1972.
