Exterior description and setting
Site (on the S side of the Saintfield Road c.1.5 miles W of the village of Killinchy) of former single storey thatched house, demolished after a fire in c.1986.
First Survey record: Single storey cottage. Roof thatched, gable ends. Chimneys roughcast. Walls rendered and whitewashed. North front has 3 small double hung windows, square panes. Sheeted door and half door between windows 1 and 2 and same after window 3. Then sheeted door. Condition fair to poor. Front about 58 feet.'
Historical information
A building is shown on this site on the OS maps of 1834 and 1859-60, which probably corresponds to the dwelling standing here until recently. No mention of the building appears to occur in the first valuation records of c.1835, but he second valuation of c.1861 noted that the ‘house and offices’ were in possession of an Anne Lowry, who leased them from a Samuel Lowry.
Local residents state that the house was demolished c.1986, after a fire.
