The Department's description
Exterior description and setting
Site (at the NW end of a very long country lane, off the Cronstown Road, c.1.5 miles ENE of Newtownards) of a former one and a half storey farm house, now demolished (?c.1990) with new dwelling now in place.
Description from 1st Survey card " 1+ half sty house. Roof slated, gable ends. Chimneys rendered and lined. Bevel base. W front has 2 Gr/Fl D/H windows, horiz astragals and central "Ards" doorway; pilaster jambs, plain s/c archivolt and keystone, plain fanlight, glazed and panelled door. F/Fl and Gr/Fl D/H windows in south gable. Adjoining and adjacent farm buildings."
Historical information
A building is shown on part this site on the OS Map of 1834, however, its plan does not match the house which was standing here until recently. The revised map of 1858-60 shows much the same arrangement as 1834, suggesting therefore that the former house on this site was probably largely post 1860 in construction. The building was demolished c.1990.
There is no mention of the property in the valuation records of c.1836, suggesting it was well below rateable value and therefore probably (if indeed a dwelling) quite a modest structure.
