Exterior description and setting

Large-ish single storey gabled house set within the terrace on the E side of Shore Road, Millisle.

Front W facade has a right of centre timber sheeted stable door. To the left are three modern windows with ‘Georgian’ panes, with a similar window to the right. To the left side of the rear is a flat roofed extension with modern windows and a tall (modern style) rendered chimney stack rising from the roof. To the centre left is a large, partly recessed and totally glazed, large rear entrance. To the right of this are two modern window openings, both very narrow, with that to the left lying horizontal and that to the right vertical.

The entire rear of the pitched roof is dominated by a very large modern flat roofed dormer which is almost entirely glazed. The dormer is also lighted by two clear ‘pyramids’ to the right of its roof.

The front of the pitched roof is covered in asbestos slates.

The front facade is finished in lined render, the rear in plain render. PVC rw goods.

Historical information

A building is shown on this site on the OS Maps of 1833/4 and 1858-60. According to the current owner (who has consulted the deeds) the house was built in the latter half of the eighteenth century, when Shore Road was still Millisle’s main thoroughfare. In recent times the rear and the interior of the building were completely ‘modernised’.

Single storey house of probable eighteenth century origin which has retained much of its original front facade, but which now has a completely modern interior, a large flat roofed dormer and a modern flat roofed extension at the rear.
