Exterior description and setting
Much extended and recently renovated two storey gabled farmhouse off the Ballyhaskin Road, c.2 miles E of Carrowdore.
Front N facade has a central doorway with segmental arch head now filled with panelled and glazed double PVC door. Plain render surround to doorway. To the left of the doorway are two PVC windows, with two similar to the right. To the first floor are five evenly spaced similar windows. There is a similar window to the left on the first floor of the E gable.
The W gable has a similar window to the right on the first floor and a larger modern looking window opening to the right on the ground floor, also with PVC frame.
The rear is dominated by a large full height gabled return to the left and a large, part one, part two storey flat roofed extension at the right. The W facade of the gabled return has a first floor window (as front) with a large PVC conservatory attached to the ground floor. Attached to the rear (S) gable of the return is a single storey gabled outbuilding. The flat roofed extensions and the exposed E facade of the return all have PVC windows (and a PVC door) of varying size.
The facade is finished in rough cast with a chamfered plinth. The roofs of the main house and the return are pitched and covered in Bangor blue slates, with two rendered chimney stacks to the main house and one to the return. Overhang to roof of main house with decorative barges. PVC rw goods.
Historical information
A building is shown on this site on the OS Maps of 1833/4 and 1858-60, however, the presence of the rear return and the decorative barges may suggest that this building was either substantially renovated, or rebuilt in late Victorian/Edwardian times.
