Exterior description and setting
War memorial of c.1925 with life size bronze statue of a soldier of the Great War, with a rifle, set on rough battered granite pedestal. The memorial is sited at the junction of Harbour Road, Main Street and Springvale Road, Ballywalter.
The pedestal is roughly 2.5m in height and set on a concrete base. Slate panel on front (SW) face of pedestal with names of the fallen of 1914-18, with a smaller panel on the NW face with the names of the fallen of 1939-45. Sculptor’s name ‘P.C. Bertram’ at base of Statue.
Historical information
This memorial was probably erected c.1920-30 and originally stood c.23m east of its present location.
