The Department's description
Exterior description and setting
Relatively small, plain two storey double-fronted terrace house of probable mid to later 19th century construction now with PVC doors and windows. The property is set on the south side of Main Street, Ballywalter.
The roof is pitched with Bangor blue slates with a (mainly) rendered chimney stack to the S. PVC rw goods. The facade is finished in plain render and painted.
The front (W) elevation is symmetrical is double-fronted and has a central PVC door flanked with single modern PVC windows, with three similar to the first floor.
To the rear there is a large flat roofed kitchen extension with a large PVC window, with three PVC windows (as front) to first floor of main house, with one to far left on ground floor.
Historical information
A terrace is shown on the this site on the OS map of 1834. In 1837 the Ordnance Survey Memoirs Ballywalter was described as having ‘cottages all built of stone, and, with few exceptions, but 1 storey in height...many of them slated...plastered and whitewashed’. It is probable that this terrace was originally mainly one storey and that perhaps this house was either raised in height or newly built in the mid to later 19th century.
