The Department's description
Exterior description and setting
Demolished and the site remains vacant.
Described in the first survey in 1971 as "A two-storey house with harled walls and hipped slated roof, four bays wide. Unrecessed D/H windows have sashes divided vertically into two panes. A timber porch protects the entrance. Not of high interest."
Historical information
Built in 1815 as a school at the expense of Viscount Massereene. Castle Street was previously known as Bow Lane, and appears as such on the OS maps of 1832 and 1857. The location was behind the property formerly known as No 98 Castle Street but now replaced by a new property which is known as No 4 Castle Street (but is not to be confused with the former 4 Castle Street which is recorded at HB20/08/045).
