The Department's description
Exterior description and setting
An intact lime kiln imbedded in bank on east side of main road. Of dry-built granite rubble fieldstones. Single pot is now overgrown; stands c.3m to roadside, but considerably lower on field side. Draw hole faces to road.
Historical information
A lime kiln is cited at this location on the 1834 OS 6” map (but not on the 1901 edition). It could be of early 19th century date (or earlier), but the possibility of a later rebuild cannot be dismissed.
