Exterior description and setting

A one-storey/ three-bay vernacular dwelling on south side of road.

Pitched natural slate roof with tiled verges. Four concrete coped and cement rendered chimneys: one to each gable and one between each bay (third from left is a dummy). There are no rainwater goods. The walls are wet dash cement rendered.

Principal elevation faces north to road. The entrance is located within the middle bay. The door is modern painted t+g sheeted. All windows are modern painted timber, 2/2 top opening, with granite cills (but in style of sliding sashes). Each bay has a single window (that to middle bay is left of door).

The left and right elevations are blank.

The site slopes to rear and the t+g sheeted door to middle bay is accessed by a flight of five granite steps falling to the right. There is a small niche on left cheek (dog kennel). There is a modern painted timber top opening window to right of door in middle bay. At right is a modern 1/1 timber top opening window.

Hedge encloses front garden at left side of which is a small restored working water pump (no maker’s name or mark). Modern metal entrance gate opposite front door is flanked by two square rendered piers with pyramidal caps. The enclosing wall to the left of the house has a wrought iron gate.

Associated threshing barn (HB 16/05/047B) to east.

Historical information

Erected in 1920s as a replacement of one at right (aligned down slope, and now a derelict outbuilding).
