The Department's description

A ruinous gate lodge aligned W-E opposite the S entrance to Spring Grove Estate. The structure appears to have been of two bays and single storey.

Roof is gone. Walls are random rubble stone and largely collapsed. No openings remain visible with the exception of a t+g sheeted door to rear wall of left bay.

A building is shown here on the 1834 OS 6” map. A slightly bigger building is shown on the 1857 edition, but it is not until the 1907 edition that it is explicitly cited as a lodge. It was probably erected in the 1820s.
