Burnt mound

The National Monuments Service's description

Located in the valley of a SE-NW stream, with an E-W section of the stream c. 10m to the S. Centre-line testing (E4067) in advance of the N25 New Ross by-pass identified a large feature (dims. 4m NE-SW; 2.7m NW-SE) filled with a sandy brown clay that had some charcoal inclusions (Doyle et al. 2010, 31-2). It was partially excavated (E4103) as a part of Camlin 2 (Area B) when the most significant feature recorded was a portion of a burnt spread (dims 4.6m NE-SW; 3.14m NW-SE; T 0.22m) that extended outside the excavation to the E. An oval cut (dims 1.30m NW-SE; 0.75m NE-SW; T 0.24m) with a large charcoal content was 3m to the N and may be a hearth, but no evidence of a trough was recovered.
