The National Monuments Service's description
Situated on a slight S-facing slope. Monitoring of topsoil removal (E004646) during the construction phase of the M11 Gorey to Enniscorthy motorway in November 2016 identified archaeological features which were fully excavated (E004833) subsequently as Ballyorril 4. Three areas with archaeological features that were placed c. 30m apart (WX020-140001-) and this fulacht fia were identified. An area of broken and burnt stone (max. dims 11.6m x 5.48m; D 0.24m) in four major deposits lay over a flat-bottomed subrectangular trough (dims 2.4m x 2.2m; D 0.43m) with rounded corners. It had 14 internal stakeholes and 11 around the edge. It was filled with six layers consisting mostly of black or brown silty sands with varying amounts of charcoal or heat-shattered stone. There were also some pits, but no artefacts were recovered. (Whitty and Kavanagh 2018, 20-1)
