The National Monuments Service's description

Marked as a subcircular embanked enclosure (ext. diam. c. 45m N-S; c. 45m E-W) incorporating the townland boundary with Ballyknock Lower S-NW on the 1840 ed. of the OS 6-inch map. Situated on a severe S-facing slope. This is a trapezoidal grass-covered area (dims. 42m N-S; 26m E-W at S to 50m E-W at N) defined by a field bank and townland boundary S-NW, a wide straight E-W fosse (Wth 10m; int. D 0.5m; ext. D 0.8m) at N and a scarp (H 0.8-1.3m) NE-S. It may have functioned as a bawn to tower house (WA031-006----) which is just outside the perimeter at the NE.

The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Waterford' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
