The National Monuments Service's description

Lying in the floor at the W end of the N aisle of the medieval parish church of St John the Baptist (TS070-040001-), currently Holy Trinity C of I church. A rectangular limestone slab (L 1.89m; Wth 0.8m) decorated in relief with a banded three-armed cross with fleur-de-lis terminals. There is a sun motif in the upper dexter corner and a moon in the upper sinister corner. The centre of the cross-head is encircled by a crown of thorns. There is a three-barred knop beneath the angled band. The cross-shaft rests on a plain pillar base which is stepped at the top. There is a inscription in latin, in Black Letter script, which runs around the border. It has been transcribed by Brennan (1862-3, 250) as: HIC JACET RICARDU HENES QUI OBIIT XXIX DIE DECEMBRIS ANO DONI 1615 CUJUS PERDILECTUS FRATER THOMAS HENES ETIAM UXOR IPIUS ANASTASIA ARCHER ME FIERI FECERUNT and translated slightly erroneously by Knowles (1903, 154) and by Long (1907-09, vol. 7, 176) as, 'Here lies Richard Henes, who died the 29th day of December A.D. 1615. His beloved brother Thomas Henes & his wife, Anastasia Archer had me made'.
