The National Monuments Service's description
In the graveyard (TS070-040044-) of the Augustinian abbey (TS070-040004-), inserted in the internal face of the E wall of the N transept. This slab (L 2.07m; Wth 1.03m) is decorated with a seven-armed segmental-headed cross, in relief, with fleur-de-lis terminals. There is a three-barred knop at the base of the cross-head and another at the base of the cross-shaft which rests on a pillar-form base. The marginal inscription, in latin, in Gothic script has been transcribed by Maher (1997, 58) as: HIC IACET THADAEUS DONILL O MEAGHER DE BALIDINI ET ANASTATIA PUR(R?)TIA/ETI' UXOR QUI ME FIERI FECERUT 20 MAII A DNI 1600. Brennan (1863, 246) also transcribed this inscription but according to Maher it is inaccurate. Knowles (1903, 115) translated the inscription as: Here lies Thadeus Donall O, Meagher of Ballidiul and Anastatia Purcell his wife, who caused this monument to be erected, the 20th day of May, A.D. 1600.
