The National Monuments Service's description
In 19th-century woodland of hazel and beech with small stream 60m downslope to W and ringfort (TS055-004----) 60m to E. Millrace runs along the edge of the reclaimed grassland and the sloping river valley with the millrace running parallel on the higher ground to the stream. Originally the land to the E of the millrace was flat wet marshland but has since been reclaimed and re-seeded with grass. No evidence of where the stream was diverted into the millrace which was upstream to the N of the existing stretch of the millrace. Indicated as an 'Old Mill Stream' on the 1840 ed. OS 6-inch map this consists of a narrow fosse (base Wth 1.5m; top Wth 4 m; ext. d 0.8m) flanked on its W side by a wide flat-topped earth and stone bank (top Wth 2m; base Wth 4.5m ext. H 0.8m int. H1m) which runs alongside the fosse on its W side along a N-S axis for a distance of 200m and then turns W and runs downslope to meet the stream which also runs parallel to the millrace. No evidence for any mill building along the millrace. May be associated with the mill mentioned in the Civil Survey of 1654-6 which describes 'a mill standing upon a small streame about muskett shott from the castle' (Simington 1931, vol. 1, 114), the castle being c. 500m to NE at Lisnamrock (TS055-006001-).
