The National Monuments Service's description
A peatland survey carried out in 2006 by Archaeological Development Services recorded a togher measuring in ‘width 2.8m, depth 1.4m’ (Whitaker 2006, 34). Described by Whitaker (2006, 34) as this ‘site was visible in the drain face, 1m below the field surface, to the east of TN-BLG0012 and west of TN-BLG009a. It was composed of a clearly defined substructure and superstructure. The substructure was composed of eleven longitudinally laid, well compacted roundwood which were orientated northeast–southwest. It measured 1.8m in width and 0.3m depth. The superstructure was composed exclusively of regularly laid light brushwood, which is particularly compact at the centre. This layer measured 2.8m in width and 1.1m in depth. The overall structure was orientated northeast–southwest and was in a moderate state of preservation. The elements measured between 0.01 and 0.1m in diameter. The peat surrounding the structure was composed of poorly humified Sphagnum with moderate Calluna and Eriophorum. There was a substantial layer of pool moss overlying the site that was clearly visible in section and measured 8m in length and 0.75m in depth’.
