Platform - peatland

The National Monuments Service's description

A peatland survey carried out in 2006 by Archaeological Development Services recorded a platform measuring in ‘width 1.5m, depth 0.3, length 2.6m’ (Whitaker 2006, 29). Described by Whitaker (2006, 30) as ‘this site was visible on the field surface and in the drain face to the west of TN-BLG005a and east of TN-BLG003d. It was composed of a longitudinally laid roundwood overlying a supporting transverse. The site was orientated northwest–southeast and was fairly well preserved, with the exception of the exposed wood on the field surface and in the drain face. The elements measured 0.27 to 0.38m in length and 0.06 to 0.1m in diameter. The peat was composed of poorly humified pool moss in which organics, including sedge material, was clearly visible. A single piece of wood was identified as ash’.
