The National Monuments Service's description
A prostrate stone slab (1.13m x 0.31m; T 0.18m) lies 2.8m ENE of the NE corner of Greenan church (SL040-135001-). It was described by Herity, Kelly and Mattenberger (1997, 120) as having the 'remains of carved crosses on two faces, one part of the lower stem of a cross and the other a crudely carved cross'. The cross stem is 19cm high and 3cm wide and the crudely carved cross is 21cm high and 13cm wide (pers. comm. M. A. Timoney). This cross-slab was mentioned in 1836 as 'a large stone, which is rendered famous by curing people of a pain in the back' (OSNB vol. 2, 383). The slab is named 'Stone' on the 1838 OS 6-inch map and 'Praying stone' on the 1914 OS 6-inch map.
