Megalithic tomb - passage tomb

This is a National Monument in State care (no. 518). Carn N in the Carrowkeel-Kesh Corann passage tomb cemetery. About 80m S of another passage tomb (SL040-101----) on a small plateau with views limited to local horizons. A small, roofless, NW-facing cruciform passage tomb rises clear of a substantially grass-grown circular cairn (diam. c. 7m; H c. 0.3m). A passage (L 0.8m), its right or W side missing, is separated by a sill from a central space opening off which are two opposed side-chambers, one to the right, another to the left, and an endchamber. The chambers are poorly preserved and cannot be precisely measured. The overall length of the chamber area from the inner end of the passage to the rear of the structure is 2m and overall width measured from the back of the right-hand side chamber to the back of the opposite example is 2.4m. It is clear that the right-hand side chamber is larger than that to the left. None of the tomb orthostats exceeds 0.6m in height. (Macalister, Armstrong and Praeger 1912, 330; Ó Nualláin 1989, 83)
