The National Monuments Service's description
In rocky pasture, on a flat-topped rise overlooking Lough Gowra and within a field system (SL040-063001-). Conjoined along its W arc to a cashel (SL040-071001-) which is located on a higher level. An oval slightly concave area (int. diam. 41m x 37.5m) slopes up to form a rim. The rim is topped by a ruinous stone wall (Wth 1.9m; int. H 0.2m; ext. H 1.2m) except along the W arc where a wall is on top of the middle wall of the adjoining trivallate cashel. The interior slopes down gently to E and contains much stone. A stone field boundary extends out from the enclosure at NW. There is a steep slope immediately to E. A kerb circle (SL040-072----) is c. 20m to S.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005).
