The National Monuments Service's description

Marked on all editions of the OS 6-inch map. Traditionally said to have been created by St. Patrick on his journey through Tireragh. The well is now enclosed within a concrete well house. (OS Letters 1836, 315 (130)); ITA Survey 1942-4)
