The National Monuments Service's description
On a N and E-facing slope of a low hillock. Archaeological excavation (E3270) during 2007 at Ardagawna 1 as part of the Athlone to Ballinasloe N6 road development revealed three pits (diam. 1.4-1.7m; D 0.2-0.4m) with bunrt bases. They contained some chared cereals and redeposited burnt subsoil, and one had fragments of burnt bone. They can be interpreted as possible corn-drying kilns, and the proven corn-drying kiln (RO052-031002-) c. 50m to the SW may be related, However, the ring-ditch (RO052-031001-) and the structure (RO052-031004-), c. 50m and 30m to the S of these pits, are probably earlier, and the burial (RO052-031003-) is probably later.
