The National Monuments Service's description
On a S-facing slope. Archaeological excavation (E3270) during 2007 at Ardagawna 1 as part of the Athlone to Ballinasloe M6 road development revealed a corn-drying kiln as a burnt pit (dims 2.2m N-S; 1m E-W; D 0.35m) with a second pit (dims 1.2m E-W; 1m N-S; D 0.55m) adjacent to the N. It produced a C14 date of Cal. AD 658-771 and is therefore unassociated with the ring-ditch (RO052-031001-) c. 10m to the SE or the medieval burial (RO052-031003-), but the three pits (RO052-031005-), c. 50m to the N and NE, which are interpreted as possible corn-drying kilns, may be contemporary.
