The National Monuments Service's description
Located on a short N-S drumlin ridge. This was described in 1968 (SMR file) as an oval overgrown area (dims c. 40m NNE-SSW; c. 33m WNW-ESE) defined by an earthen bank and hedge with an external fosse (at E: Wth of top 3.5m; Wth of base 2.3m; ext. H 0.7m). The entrance (Wth of base 2.1m) and causeway (Wth of top 3.5m; H 0.4m) are at NE. The interior had been cleared of scrub by 1995 (OSAP).
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
